USS Gallant Promotions Manual

Introduction

This manual set out as a guide to understand Promotion recommendations and the policies surrounding USS Gallant promotions.

One of the first questions asked by many officers and enlisted is “How do I get promoted?” This is one of the most common questions in any enthusiast group. In the following points, we will try to explain the concept of promotions as clearly as possible.

When you cross examine yourself about  WHEN do I get promoted should be WHAT can I do to EARN a promotion.

The Basic Concepts of a Promotion

Promotions are given to those USS Gallant members who wish to become  a  officer on a Federation Starship within Solaris Command . In roleplay  an  officer is either a Commissioned or Non-Commissioned (enlisted) member that serves on a ship. Civilians are not eligible for promotion in Solaris Base Station as they hold no rank.

Solaris Command acknowledge the contributions made by its members through permitting of fictional ranks. Promotions are one way for Solaris Command and for USS Gallant to thank our members for their contributions and activities within our group.

The basic concept of ANY promotion is plain and simple, promotions involve participation and contribution to the group. Simply put, you get out of USS Gallant Star trek RP what you put into it. When you participate to whatever capacity you choose, you will be promoted in due time. However, if you simply only perform duties on our ship, come and leave or sit there this will take longer than Experience Program dictates and requires a significant amount of effort put in.

We encourage every Solaris member that roleplays on the USS Gallant to participate at levels, and it is your journey.  It is up to you. You do NOT have to hold a high office in SOLARIS COMMAND to get promoted to Captain or Admiral but as previously stated, it will take longer and be more difficult to attain these ranks. However, that being said, if you never do anything outside our Ship or to help the Station and or it's events, it will be much harder to get these higher promotions.

Please understand that SOLARIS Command uses promotions on our Federation Starship  USS Gallant to REWARD its members for their contributions made to roleplay as a group.  SOLARIS COMMAND and USS GALLANT is not OBLIGATED to promote anyone. USS GALLANT uses if Experience program to promote its members when Command Staff sees fit to offer a promotion based on the experience guidelines, but NEVER when a member THINKS they should get a promotion or DEMANDS one.

Promotions are...

  • Forthrightly, anyone can get a promotion to any rank within USS Gallant. Just because you are not in some BIG GROUP  with  Joint Chief or Sector Commander does not mean you will not be considered for a promotion. Within Solaris and USS Gallant, there are not many positions to go around. ( we are looking to grow) There are many hardworking members at all levels
  • Fictitious and should NOT be used to belittle any other member. If you pull rank or haze other members, you can expect to be reprimanded quickly within SOLARIS COMMAND STAFF, whether you are a Command Officer or a Crewman.
  • SOLARIS COMMAND and USS Gallant is our responsibility to maintain the experience program and awards.  Members are not awarded for personal favors or favoritism.
  • Something you earn. You are not entitled to a promotion; you have to earn it by following the guidelines set forth in this manual.

Rank versus Authority

Rank and Authority are sometimes confused. Some members thing because i been with our group for 3yrs..ect  and i am rank of lieutenant I have more Authority verse a member that worked harder to earn the rank of lieutenant.  Your RANK is fictional while authority is assigned is real. A rank is awarded to you for your service in United Federation Starfleet. The AUTHORITY of Commanding Officer....ect is given to them by the Commander-in-Chief, Solaris Base Command, in order to enforce their administrative and management job rights.

"NEVER THINK BECAUSE YOU BEEN WITH US OR GAIN AUTHORITY WITHIN OTHER GROUPS  that you deserve things."

New Member Rank

After your application has been approved all new USS Gallant members start as “crewman member” until such time you must go through a 60day trial period.  Your journey begins to show us how serious you wish to be a contributing member to our roleplay family.  As you earn your experience outline in this guideline will determine your promotion to the starting rank of their chosen Dept.  path

Kinds of Ranks & Promotions

USS GALLANT(XP) EXPERIENCE PROGRAM

USS GALLANT uses the Unity Star System to enhance our role-playing as a group) . With every RP (abbreviated as RPG) where a Second Life RP is assign a duty departments.   Group member uses experience and progression through the Story arc  and  take responsibility for duties out these roles within a narrative, through literal through a process of structured decision-making regarding character development of the story arc.   Experience points are generally awarded for the completion of objectives, overcoming obstacles and opponents, and successful Star Trek role-playing

This system will interact with your SL avatar to:

  1. Experience points (XP) are used in our Star Trek roleplay to give our members a  interactive inworld 3D experience and progression through the Story Arc.  Member gain XP by overcoming challenges and completing tasks.  Awarded at different levels for attending your post and other things  posted rules and guidelines.
  2. This system will interact in the health status good or damaged based on what is used during roleplay

When a sufficient amount of experience has been earned, group member under xp guideline SOLARIS COMMAND evaluates the member for promotion to "levels up"to the next rank , achieving the next stage of character development.   Where  xp program   usually decrease the member xp  statistics next stage of character development to work harder to earn next level .

Ranks are not given away but earned.  During the XP journey doing things as outline in the program will  add to or maximum your  health, wisdom ,dexterity  and strength, and may permit the character to acquire new abilities or improve existing ones.  At same time extra work and time will decrease your food status thus having to eat and drink

Promotions & Time in Service (xp)

Group  members think that Time in Service automatically assurance them for a promotion to the next rank. Solaris Command views Time in Service as an indicator that one may be ELIGIBLE for a promotion.  Essentially means that a group member who has performed his/her duties and has been active under our group guideline as well as meeting all other experience program requirements for that next rank MAY be submitted for a promotion consideration once Time in Service is met.

Eligibility does NOT mean “automatically granted”

In order to receive a promotion, the member needs to demonstrate  a standard of   performance and prove growth since the last promotion

Loss of Time in Service (xp)

While we started this XP program in 2024. This will be a standing foundation with the use of of our group members that truly wants to  go beyond the scope of their normal duties, we do have the possibility set in place with the XP program to reduced up to 6 months for promotion eligibility depending on their level of activity.

NEVERTHELESS,

Please note that consistent activity is a major factor in promotions, prolonged periods of inactivity, or only being active when you think a promotion is due can severely impact your XP thus promotion.

Promotions and Performance

Solaris Base Command/USS Gallant. We are fan organization based upon Starfleet as portray  on  the TV show called  “Star Trek”™. Starfleet is an organization based upon a foundation of rules and regulations as well as personal conduct.

Solaris Base Command we try to emulate this environment but also recognize this is Second Life 3D game world  so we try to keep in those foundation as best as we can .  We are not Robots but most people that roleplay with use also try's their best

Another reason we try bringing these outward ideas into this SL inworld. We Starfleet Offices so we try behave as a Starfleet member. But each beyond the brave new worlds and ideas

So if you come roleplay with us you can be as active as you want but when you cannot follow our basic rules we set forth  or have serious issues following the conduct of a member as defined our Solaris RP Membership Manual, then this will certainly affect your promotions.

A very good example to understand promotions is in Star Trek The Next Generation: " Lower Decks" or "Tapestry" Riker:" I think I have to agree with the Counselor, if you want to get ahead, you have to take chances. Stand out in a crowd. Get noticed. Lt J.G. Jean-Luc Picard

NEVER expect a promotion and why ?

With the XP program we are looking at the factor we know that group members will start to count their  XP  and compare that with what they THINK they contributed to Solaris and USS Gallant and then start to expect a promotion. This often leads to disappointments when one doesn't get promoted on the exact time they  meet the XP  that they feel they should get promoted. So while said member would only look at how active are you , Solaris Command  and USS Gallant Staff reflects  on  other facts to see if a promotion is warranted.

With the XP program in place  reflect  on this , the higher in rank that you go, the more that is expected of you , it is easier for a an ensign to get promoted to Lt JG by just contributing via roleplay, than it would be for a Lt Cmdr to be promoted to Cmdr for doing the same thing.

(  xp guideline )

  • A USS Gallant member that does their normal duties aboard their the ship : usually does NOT get promoted exactly on their XP level but rather some months after their review  has passed.
  • A Gallant member that does their normal duties aboard on the  ship   but is also active within a Solaris group stuff, Discord  and such as the  RFL ,Phase 1 Studys : MIGHT get promoted
  • A Gallant  member that is active above and beyond the call of duty by helping out within VARIOUS  Depts  Solaris Command and Gallant Staff  will consider dropping  timeline of next promotion of the officer`s , however this may be rare and only happens at special  group events .
  • A Gallant  member that is active but has a history of getting “upset”, "constantly disrespects or does not follow roleplay story arcs"  when they don't get their way will have this negatively affect their promotion eligibility.
  • A Gallant member that is active but resigned a position or gets ticked off and leaves to “teach”  SOLARIS Command AND USS GALLANT  a lesson does not only affect your promotion eligibility but also your chance to be at SOLARIS  Command again.

The more we see your name pop up in a good way, the more likely you are to get promoted.

The more SOLARIS  Command personally sees your name pop up in a good way, the more likely you will be chosen for a better  positions.

example as to when you might get disappointed:

You get promoted to LIEUTENANT. You know that if you work hard your XP to be eligible for LT COMMANDER in 12 months. That means we will ask your Commanding Officer along with anyone else in SOLARIS/GALLANT you worked for what you did during these 12 months that warrants a promotion. If from those 12 months you only were active for 2 months, we can all agree that you are not going to get a promotion at this time.

So being active only close to the end of your XP is not going to help you when it comes to promotions.

Demotions

SOLARIS COMMAND  working with Gallant Command Staff  grants promotions for your contributions towards this group , we also reserve the right to take away a promotion (demotion). Your conduct and general behavior within our group  is the main source as to why SOLARIS COMMAND  might consider to demote one of its group members

Promotion Requirements

The XP  section will give you the ideas of the XP program  and it's  requirements that must be met to receive the next grade of promotion.  What is listed there for group member indicators are in no way an exact science, so it's never a good idea to start to expect a promotion. See:
